The Quantum Computing Lead’s main mission is to be the central point for Quantum Computing within AXA. As a part of the R&D team he/she will connect the cutting-edge technology to a business-related vision – starting today with a financial optimisation focus. In this spirit, at the R&D team we are excited to produce useful knowledge and tools.  We share them to data scientist, actuaries, business partners at the different operating entities around the world. 

At the R&D we lead by thinking differently. Ideas may come from internal projects as well as from collaborations with academic partners. From creating experiments and prototyping tools to shaping the thinking on critical technical topics impacting insurance and society, we work on problems including artificial intelligence, data mining, data science, as well as future of insurance pricing, risk analysis and much more.

The team’s more applied research is driven by a close collaboration with our data and technology innovation teams which focus on discovering, inventing and building disruptive insurance products and services at scale, by leveraging AI technologies such as NLP, Computer Vision, Automotive Reasoning and Operational Data produced by, for instance financial transactions or IoT devices. As well as driving research partnerships and looking ahead to the next technologies such as Quantum Computing.

These are exciting times and amazing topics, with lots still to be discovered and lots being produced already around the world. The R&D team has a never-ending quest to be part of it and make it accessible to all.

Main responsibilities:

  • Leading the global effort for Quantum Computing within AXA.
  • Understanding of the technology, its varying level of maturity and its future within AXA.
  • Regularly explore the academic and commercial state of the art of the technology.
  • Building up and streamline concrete use cases – running on QC hardware, with ad-hoc teams.
  • Target and formalise short and long challenges in operational needs where quantum computing could disrupt the current state of play considering relevant technical architectures and applications.
  • Animate the Quantum Computing Community within the group by keeping them informed and share knowledge appropriately to a wide array of backgrounds from technical to executive audiences.
  • Managing various stakeholders both inside and outside of the group.
  • Be a reference point for Quantum Computing and provide punctual and relevant advice to people who need it.
  • Working closely with the Head of R&D to produce these high-quality deliverables on time, on budget and on scope.

Votre profil


  • Master’s Degree in Physics, Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Relevant work experience in a research or business environment.
  • Understanding of the Quantum Computing landscape and its underlying technology.
  • Programming experience in Python or equivalent.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Experience presenting a complex topic and the ability to adapt different audiences.
  • Experience working with innovative technology in a business environment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • A basic understand of financial modeling & its use cases with a willingness to learn more.
  • Experience in project & stakeholder management.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn in a fast-changing environment.
  • Ability to clearly link business needs to technical solutions.
  • Exposure to Qiskit or equivalent.
  • Exposure to Quantum Information Science, specifically Quantum Computing Algorithms and their uses.

  • Capacity to inspire others and easily share their knowledge.
  • Capacity to stay focused and ability to keep the pace in a complex environment.
  • Keen desire to share and be proactive.
